JOURNÉE PAROLES ET MANŒUVRES: THE VALUE OF FAILURE

Belinda Campbell is Montreal artist who’s work includes performance, music, drawing and poetry. Her work has been shown individually and collectively on numerous occasions, notably at Axe Néo 7 (Gatineau), at L’Oeil de Poisson (Québec), at Dare-Dare and Optica (Montreal). Her videos have been presented at Théâtre Cafoutche, at Théâtre de l’Embobineuse (Marseille) and included in the programming of Fifa (Festival international du Film sur l’Art). Performances by the artist were presented at Théâtre La Chapelle, Centre d’art et diffusion Clark and in Helsinki, Finlande. In the course of her career, she has collaborated with Caroline Dubois, Pascal Dufaux and Stéphane Gilot. Campbell’s poems were heard at public readings and published twice in periodicals in 2014.

Patrice Desbiens has published over thirty books over his 40-plus years of career, and has become one of the rare poets to enjoy both critical and popular success. He is now widely recognized as one of the most important writers of our era. In 1997, he was recipient of the Prix Champlain for his book Un pépin de pomme sur un poêle à bois, and won the prestigious Prix des Terrasses Saint-Sulpice in 1998 for La fissure de la fiction. Patrice Desbiens was also finalist for the 1985 Governor General’s Award for Dans l’après-midi cardiaque.

Anne McGuire was born in the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant, and has lived in San Francisco since 1990. Anne started making videos in the late 1980’s while a student. She also writes poems and sings them as songs, and has performed as Freddy McGuire with San Francisco-based electronic musician Wobbly, live and on radio. Her work has been shown in galleries and museums internationally. She taught video art at KyungSung University, at the San Francisco Art Institute, University of California Santa Cruz, and Stanford University.

Nicolas Lévesque is a photographer and filmmaker from Roberval, Canada. After his studies in photography, arts and cinema, he co-founds the KAHEM photographers association. His work takes shape in the concept of the various degrees of acceptation in a given reality/context. His cameras brought him in many places in the world, especially in South America for documentary projects. He works with the National film board of Canada and the national television network, Télé-Québec. Granted by the SODEC in 2014, he is writing his first documentary feature film.

Cecelia Condit has shown internationally in festivals, museums and alternative spaces and is represented in collections including the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and Centre Georges Pompidou Musee National d’Art Moderne, Paris, France. She has received numerous awards including grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, American Film Institute, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Mary L. Nohl Foundation. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA.

Lilli Hartmann is a multidisciplinary artist who was born in Rosenheim (Germany). Her installations and performances were shown internationally in group and solo exhibitions. At the Murmansk Art Museum, the Castlefield Gallery Manchester, at ‘Flaggfabrikken’ Kunsthall Bergen, Beaconsfield London, CA2M Móstoles and Neue Froth Kunsthalle, Brighton. Her videos have been selected for the following film festivals: London LLFG BFI Film Festival, the LLFF Film Festival in Canada and the NIO Video Festival in Pereira, Colombia. The artist lives and works in Madrid.

Katie Moore’s haunting music lies somewhere in the no-man’s-land between folk, country, soul and Americana. Built around a persuasive simplicity, her songs are anchored by her unique voice. Katie is also known as the Voice of Socalled and is a long-time collaborator with Josh Dolgin and member of the band Socalled. She has sung with Chilly Gonzales, Patrick Watson, Plants and Animals, and Feist. She is part of Ship of Fools, a bluegrass-country band that she formed with her friends in 2013, and hosts CKUT Montreal’s Country Classics Hour Sunday Night Radio show.
