CAROLINE BOILEAU AND CHANTAL NEVEU: GUETTER PRATIQUER ANTICIPER TAILLER*

Project Description
Engaging with Skol’s Horizon libre and Carte blanche, the artist Caroline Boileau has invited Chantal Neveu, a writer and interdisciplinary artist, to take over the space of the gallery with her – in their presences and in relation.
The exhibition, entitled guetter pratiquer anticiper tailler*, will include two parts. The first is a visual, architectual, and literary installation that will bring together a long mural poem and a series of drawings of different sizes. The second, performative component will be a set and laboratory where the two artists will experiment with presences, readings, and gestures as ways of putting notions of resonance, adjacency, and immersion into play: the proximity of and distance between bodies and words, drawings and bodies, and words and drawings.
*The title is taken from La vie radieuse by Chantal Neveu (La Peuplade, 2016).

Caroline Boileau addresses body and health through a practice that combines performative action, drawing, video and installation. She is interested in the different ways of inhabiting, representing and talking about the body. Since 1995, she has participated in several residencies in Canada and Europe. Her work has been shown in Canada, the US, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Finland, Norway and Brazil. She holds an MFA from Concordia University.
She recently presented La peau entre les mondes, a live performance at Parc Walter-Stewart as part of ODYSSÉE 2004-2014 presented by Dare-Dare. In 2016, she presented her work in performance at Mobius in Boston and also during a one-week residency at the Musée d’art de Joliette as part of the exhibition Le catalogue des futurs by Stéphane Gilot.
During the year 2016-2017, she is an artist-in-residence at the Grey Nuns’ Pavilion at Concordia University where, while pursuing her research, she also develops actions and interventions for the student community living in the building. During the same period, she is sharing her time between Montreal and Granby, where she is working a long-term residency project with 3e imperial, centre d’essai en art actuel. This residency project encourages a reflection on our visions of the future, through a process of collaboration and intergenerational collective creation. Her work in drawing is represented by the Robert Poulin Gallery in Montreal and her work in video is distributed by GIV [Groupe intervention video].
Chantal Neveu is the author of four books of poetry — La vie radieuse, coït, mentale (La Peuplade), Une spectaculaire influence (l’Hexagone) et èdres (É=É) — and has created numerous interdisciplinary literary projects that draw on plastic, performing, and media arts. Her solo and collaborative works have been produced and presented in Québec and abroad. coït and A Spectacular Influence (BookThug) were translated from French to English by Angela Carr and Nathanaël, respectively.
