In the spirit of exchange and reflection, Skol invites the public to participate in Journées Paroles et Manœuvres. A cross-disciplinary meeting of interventions, conferences, performances and discussions, this event aims to inverse roles, to encourage collaboration between different types of expertise and to support hybrid forms of communication. Journées Paroles et Manœuvres is an opportunity to take time, together, through various forms and ideas.

Ti-Pop le Québec

In the current context of globalization and massive migrations, is it possible to imagine Québec as distinct, francophone, yet open and welcoming?

Between Québec Bashing, closed-minded forms of patriotism and the obvious shortcomings of the politically correct, can a convening path be opened up?

Without a specific thesis or slogan, Skol’s Journée Ti-Pop explores these questions through reflection, dialogue and humour.

And ‘Pop’ is Pop Art. But it’s not just about art. It’s more about a culture, our long-standing culture, which should be called ‘Ti-Pop Culture’. Ti-Pop is an attitude. 2:45 PM : PERFORMANCE BY KAMISSA MA KOÏTA: VOUS’AUTRES. The artist sculpts the here and now with fragments of dialogues that marked her memory. Shedding her skin and reversing roles, she leads us to face disturbing zones of a familiar ground.

Jonathan Livernois is associate professor in l’Université Laval’s Département des littératures. A specialist in 19^th and 20^th-century intellectual and literary history of Québec, his recent books include Un moderne à rebours, Biographie intellectuelle et artistique de Pierre Vadeboncœur (Québec, PUL, 2012), Papineau, Erreur sur la personne (with Yvan Lamonde, Boréal, 2012), Remettre à demain, Essai sur la permanence tranquille au Québec (Boréal, 2014) and Les intellectuel.les au Québec, Une brève histoire (Del Busso, 2015, with Yvan Lamonde, Marie-Andrée Bergeron and Michel Lacroix). Livernois is member of the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la littérature et la culture québécoises (CRILCQ) and director of Espace De Saint-Denys-Garneau.

Kamissa Ma Koïta’s transdisciplinary practice is fuelled by multiple feminisms and alter-globalization movements, and by queer and pop culture. Koïta’s intersubjective approach often brings her to work with collaborators and to reflect on the social body as a base material. Since 2015, she has organized Multitudes, performance laboratories that aim to be open spaces of experimentation and dialogue around performance. Koïta’s work has been presented in Montréal at Skol, Galerie Gham & Dafe and at La Passe.

Dalie Giroux has taught political thought at the University of Ottawa since 2003. Her research proposes a theory of, and interdisciplinary experimentation with the forms of articulation that connect space, language and power in the contemporary world. Giroux has reflected/written about/from F.W. Nietzsche, Pierre Perrault, Giorgio Agamben, the post-industrial, theatre, Gilles Deleuze, Peter Sloterdijk, Québec, the university, shit, idiocy, America, language, indigenous issues, Jean Morisset, methodological anarchism, emancipation, and the violence of the State. Last September, she published Le Québec brûle en enfer: essais politiques (Québec Burns in Hell: Political Essais).

Monsieur Larose is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in the deep woods. He writes deranged tales, spoken work pieces and songs within a practice encompassing theatrical performance, fuzzy rock and experimental video. On stage, Larose brings together and transgresses these varied artforms, creating dream-like worlds where haphazard elements collide and overlap.
