Skol / Innovation Youth collaboration

Skol is proud to collaborate with Innovation Youth, an organization whose mandate is to offer a community space for youth and families living in or frequently visiting downtown, opening up the possibilities of integration into academic, family, and social life.

Skol participates to this mandate by presenting art workshops, given by a Skol member and based on the artist’s process.

Workshop description

Through artist talks, discussions and walkabouts in the city, participants will be encouraged to explore furtive art, an artistic practice that uses the urban space both as a base material and site for exploration.

 Multidisciplinary workshops and guided exhibition tours at Centre des arts actuels Skol will allow participants to explore drawing, sculpture, installation, photo and video. With knowledge of how to use these tools in the creation of furtive interventions in the urban space, they will develop a general knowledge and vision of contemporary art practices.

The workshop is designed to encourage discussion and collaboration. It includes: two visits to Centre des arts actuels Skol; creative workshops using different mediums (drawing, sculpture, photo and video); explorations of public spaces; and the creation of a zine documenting the workshop process as experienced by the participants.

The pieces created in the workshop will be presented at Skol at the end of August during an informal event for participants, workshop leaders and Skol’s public.

Furtive art is an artform that covertly inserts itself into public space. Ephemeral, non-spectacular and difficult to detect, furtive art uses strategies of invisibility to achieve its ends.
