\r\nWhat is an artist member at SKOL?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n An artist member of SKOL is someone engaged in an artistic practice who chooses to be part of a space dedicated to exchange, dissemination, networking, and research in contemporary art. Members are not simply beneficiaries of the centre\u2019s services\u2014they embody its living structure. Through their participation in committees, decision-making bodies, and the board of directors, members enact the centre\u2019s governance. Each member plays a vital role in SKOL\u2019s democratic life, notably by exercising their right to vote during assemblies\u2014an essential function that ensures the continuity and legitimacy of collective decisions.<\/p>\r\n Being a member at SKOL means:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n A network of peers with whom to share your practice, reflections, and challenges;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t A space that values socially engaged art while respecting the freedom and flexibility of each artistic path;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t A community anchor offering care, inspiration, and solidarity within an environment that respects the centre\u2019s mission.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n SKOL recognizes that its members bring the centre to life\u2014they are its founders, builders, and governors. There is no artist-run centre without its members, as every decision is carried by their collective voice. Their right to vote forms both the legal and symbolic foundation of SKOL\u2019s democratic operations.<\/p>\r\n In return, the centre is committed to offering concrete and respectful support tailored to each artist\u2019s journey, through:<\/p>\r\n\r\n Artistic visibility, via the Members' space, satellite workshops, mediation activities, or studio visits;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t Exhibition opportunities in Montr\u00e9al and beyond, through a network of partners and active monitoring of opportunities for members;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t Accessible space, including the possibility of borrowing rooms or temporary office space between programming periods.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n SKOL also fosters active and collective participation, through:<\/p>\r\n\r\n The Annual General Assembly, a moment of exchange and decision-making where members elect the Board of Directors;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t A monthly members\u2019 newsletter sharing updates, calls for participation, and member-led projects;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t The opportunity to serve on committees, contributing to the centre\u2019s collective governance;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t Member meet-ups\u2014daytime or evening events for reflection, peer support, and artistic dialogue;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t Studio visits among artist members to deepen connections between practices.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n Artist Member\r\n<\/strong>Artist Member ($20) ; Student Artist Member ($15)<\/p>\r\n To qualify as an artist member, applicants must meet the following criteria in line with the recognition of professional artist status:<\/p>\r\n\r\n Be a professional artist specializing in contemporary art;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t Hold or be pursuing a university degree (undergraduate or graduate) in visual arts;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t Have a coherent and critically engaged artistic practice in contemporary art;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t Be recognized by peers\u2014for example, by having received a distinction, a grant, or having exhibited in professional venues.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n Artist members have the right to vote in the centre\u2019s democratic processes and are strongly encouraged to take an active role in committees contributing to the centre\u2019s activities.<\/p>\r\n Supporting Member\r\n<\/strong>Individual Supporting Member, with voting rights ($20).<\/p>\r\n A supporting member is any individual who wishes to contribute to SKOL\u2019s activities. This may include independent creators, producers, cultural workers, or other professionals engaged in the visual or media arts sectors.<\/p>\r\n Supporting members have voting rights and can actively participate in the committees that help shape the centre\u2019s life.<\/p>\r\n Corporate Philanthropic Member\r\n<\/strong>Corporate Philanthropic Member, without voting rights ($100).<\/p>\r\n A corporate philanthropic member may be a company, institution, or patron wishing to provide financial, material, or technical support to the Centre des arts actuels SKOL.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n \t
