{"id":10141,"date":"2015-07-10T20:20:07","date_gmt":"2015-07-10T20:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/skol.ca\/?p=10141"},"modified":"2020-12-01T19:49:56","modified_gmt":"2020-12-01T19:49:56","slug":"olivia-mcgilchrist-en-collaboration-avec-jean-small-otherness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skol.ca\/en\/programming\/olivia-mcgilchrist-en-collaboration-avec-jean-small-otherness\/","title":{"rendered":"Olivia McGilchrist in collaboration with Jean Small: Otherness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder<strong>Multimedia video installation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>November 6th \u2013 December 19th 2015<br \/>\nOpening on Friday November 6th<\/p>\n<p><b>Project Description<\/b><\/p>\n<p><em>otherness<\/em> is an ongoing collaborative body of work between Jean Small, a Guyanese-Jamaican eighty year old actress, playwright and traditional storyteller and Olivia McGilchrist, a French-Jamaican thirty-four year old visual artist working in photography, video and interactive media.<\/p>\n<p>This installation attempts to interpret the physicality of post-colonial bodies through a filmed and re-configured live performance. Since 2013, Jean and Olivia have been exploring the re-appropriation of the foreign <em>other<\/em> body through physical gesture and sound. This collaboration is driven by the attempt to map out the tension between conflicted ideas and emotions surrounding notions of the <em>other<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by Jean Paul Sartre&#8217;s 1944 play &#8216;Huis Clos\u2019 (No Exit) the piece embodies contested cultural narratives, which are troubled and re-invented by juxtaposing a mimed interaction over two facing screens.
