October 29, 2011<br \/>\nOpening on Thursday October 20, 5pm-9pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Centre Turbine project presented in collaboration with Centre des arts actuels Skol.<\/p>\n<p>In the fall of 2011, <em>La Fabrique<\/em>&nbsp;set up its activities in the Rheaume Pavillion of the Monseigneur-Richard High School in Verdun: a fascinating indoor world shaped by brutalist concrete architecture, typically found in Quebec school constructions of the 1970s. <em>La Fabrique<\/em>&nbsp;initially raised questions: How can one breathe life into this environment and architecture devoted to pedagogy? How can artistic action foster reflection about this space?<\/p>\n<p>What followed was a dissemination of graphic manifestos and printed quotes by participating students in which they reflected on their built environment and its social ramifications. This acted as a catalyst for the artist and two groups of students to dedicate themselves to a core production of unusual furniture, created from obsolete equipment found in the school\u2019s storage spaces: an &#8220;armada&#8221; of hybrid objects was gradually inserted into the school to enhance its public dimension, and to foster the emergence of social interaction spaces within it. These unexpected actions questioned the students\u2019 relationship with their school microcosm and, by extension, that of their own city.<\/p>\n<p>At Skol, the project will conclude with the production of a <a href=\"https:\/\/skol.ca\/publications\/la-fabrique-cest-quoi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">journal<\/a>&nbsp;and a photographic documentation. An opportunity to reflect on the adventure of juggling between the openness of the creative process and the often demanding cycles of the school calendar: a learning situation for all involved, where working rhythms adapt to each other, where the flexibilities of artistic autonomy and pedagogical action are mutually put to the test, and the unknown becomes a project\u2019s essential ally.<\/p>\n<p>This residency project was developed with the participation of students of Monseigneur Richard High School, with the support of the <em>Libres comme l\u2019art<\/em> program of the Conseil des Arts de Montr\u00e9al (CAM), the Conf\u00e9rence r\u00e9gionale des \u00e9lus de Montr\u00e9al (CR\u00c9) et du minist\u00e8re de l\u2019\u00c9ducation, du Loisir et du Sport (Programme de soutien \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9cole montr\u00e9alaise).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 20 \u2013 October 29, 2011<br \/>\nExhibition<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":1147,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[51,18],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1146","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-past","category-programming","nom-jean-maxime-dufresne"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.4 -
