This project proposes to play with the limits of tenuous lines between the real and the fictional, staging problems that are not real or created by the mind. This is part of a wider approach towards restitution, engaged in the demonstration of the inherent qualities of the subjects and the enhancement of imperfection, therefore giving photographs a dubious aesthetic. Regarding this aspect, Katia Gosselin’s photographic series report complex narratives underlining the discomfort of a being within a dystopian society.

Biography

Katia Gosselin lives and works in Montreal. Holder of a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) major in photography from Concordia University in Montreal, her work has been shown through numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally, and is part of private collections in Canada and Belgium. She has received grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), the Canada Council for the Arts (CAC), the Manitoba Arts Council and merit scholarships from several foundations, including Desjardins.
