\/>\n<\/strong>Artist\u2019s Talk on Wednesday March 9 at 5:30pm<br \/>\nClosing on Friday April 1<sup>st<\/sup> at 5pm, followed by performances starting at 6pm<br \/>\nMeet the UA Wednesday &#8211; Saturday, 2pm-5pm<br \/>\nWrite to the UA at <a href=\"mailto:unknown.inconnu.artist@gmail.com\"><em>unknown.inconnu.artist@gmail.com<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Project Description<\/h4>\n<p>A scriptural mark indicates a stealthy presence, plural voices speak in the third person singular, and an anonymous entity engages in undisclosed artistic actions in this unit which explores the unknown artist from the perspective of possible identities. Who goes there, when, where, how and to what end is the underlying question guiding these exploratory and open-ended interventions and works which will gradually trace a profile of the <em>UA<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h4>Nathalie Quagliotto<\/h4>\n<p>An intervention in which the artist paints &#8220;NATHALIE QUAGLIOTTO WAS HERE&#8221; in small format and using safety yellow paint on one of the gallery walls. With this terse statement Quagliotto reveals the essence of her practice &#8211; to leave marks of a cautionary nature &#8211; and points to a defining characteristic of many artists &#8211; to be an absent presence indicated by a temporary inscription in social space. Artistic identity is here boiled down to a named absence that disrupts our ordinary understanding of what it means to be someone, somewhere.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"clues\">S\/he embodies the Unknown Artist<\/h4>\n<div class=\"feature\">\n<p>Working from a position of anonymity the \u201cembodier\u201d will make <em>The Unknown Artist<\/em>\u2019s presence palpable through various interventions, performances and multidisciplinary works which s\/he will create while the gallery is closed. Fuzzy and imprecise photographic, videographic and textual traces and other existential clues left behind by this unpredictable displayer who will not be displayed will echo the tension between the gradually emerging installation corpus and the embodied person behind it all.<\/p>\n<h4>Sophie Castonguay<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"feature\">\n<p><em><em>Ce n&#8217;est rien<\/em><\/em><br \/>\nA performance during which the <em>Unknown Artist<\/em> is convened to express him or herself freely without betraying his or her anonymity. In order to do this, Sophie Castonguay will use a method that requires audience members to read short phrases written for the occasion by the <em>UA<\/em>.
