The Listening Sessions<\/em> are an occasion to get together and share the joy of listening to music.<\/p>\nThrough this performance, she explores how this kind of non-verbal engagement can potentially create connection, even a kind of intimacy, among acquaintances, but especially among ‘strangers’.<\/p>\n
As music is so very evocative of other times\/places and emotions, the experience of listening to music in an intentioned, quiet and focused setting, creates a particular zone of \u2018communion.\u2019<\/p>\n
Participants are invited to bring a song of their choice, which will be played off mp3 players in a round-robin DJ session. If they choose to, they can say something about the song they\u2019ve selected, which turns into a second stage of presentation: performances of memory through spontaneous storytelling.<\/p>\n
Fortner Anderson: Points of Departure

\n<\/strong><\/p>\nProject Description<\/strong><\/p>\nEach day for a period of one-year, from February 11th 2010 to February 10th 2011, poet and performance artist Fortner Anderson composed a poem for the project Points of Departure<\/em>. Over that period, 256 poems were completed.<\/p>\nThis performance presents the results of this yearlong project in a single uninterrupted reading of a duration of 12 hours and 10 minutes. Every two minutes, in chronological order, the poet will present the poem composed for the corresponding day. For those days for which there was no completed text, he will remain silent for two minutes.<\/p>\n

The poems of Points of Departures <\/em>treat the daily life and changing humours of the poet. If, within each act of poetic creation, a communication of the affective life is condensed and intensified, the performance of Points of Departure<\/em> will permit the public to obtain an ever closer and increasingly intimate rapport with the affective life of the poet.<\/p>\nSpread out over its 365 episodes, the performance presents a topographical chart of an inner world embroiled in large perennial questions, but also with the fleeting and the banal.<\/p>\n
In 2014, errant bodies<\/em> press has produced a book-object, containing these texts. Bound on all four sides, this book-object is constructed so that it cannot be opened. It will be available at Skol.<\/p>\n
