Viva! Art Action: Jacqueline van de Geer and Jean-Philippe Luckhurst-Cartier

Originally from the Netherlands, Jacqueline van de Geer crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 2005 to live and work in Montreal.
Since having immigrated to Canada she has been honored to perform for several companies including Le Pont Bridge, Joe-Jack and John, Nervous Hunter and Compagnie Mobile Home as well as perform her solo performances in Canada and the USA. These experiences have provided her with an opportunity to collaborate with a wonderful eclectic community of artists in various domains: dance, integrated arts, theatre and performance art.
Van de Geer’s performances draw inspiration from universal themes such as heritage, family, democracy, warring and the politics of exclusion.
She loves working with absurdity, dark humour and irony.
It is important to her to surprise herself in her process and to share this exciting feeling of ‘the un- expected’ with the participants. She invites them in a non-invasive way to become a part of the live performative experience, addressing them directly, drawing them in as if we were in her living room. Creating intimacy, garnering trust are critical to Jacqueline’s performance practice.

Jean-Philippe Luckhurst-Cartier is a multidisciplinary action artist that works with appropriation and art pedagogy, slyly exploring history and the everyday. Context itself is the base material of Luckhurst-Cartier’s projects; whether brought to light through the use of found objects, installation, painting or performance, the private and public spaces he explores serve as starting point for personal, micropolitical and often surprising reflections. His works have been presented by organizations such as Espace Projet, Articule, Péristyle Nomade, Cercle-Carré, la Maison des arts de Laval, la Maison de la Culture Maisonneuve, Off-RIAP and a forthcoming project will be presented by Folie Culture in Québec City.
