Denis Lessard: Archives processing room (apr)

Performance

March – August, 2011
Wednesdays and Thursdays, 12pm – 5pm

Project Description

From March to August 2011, archivist Denis Lessard will be installed in the centre’s smaller exhibition space where he’ll be processing Skol’s historical archives on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 12pm to 5pm, as part of the project La salle de traitement des archives (sta) / Archives processing room (apr).

While archivists usually work in the discreet, controlled environment of an archival centre, the sta/apr’s public aspect will lend the project a performative dimension. Lessard will be available to answer visitors’ questions, and he hopes to engage a dialogue with cultural practitioners and artists interested in the Skol archives, in view of future projects that might emerge from the gallery’s archives.

True to its spirit of innovation, Skol is the first Quebec artist-run centre to employ the services of a professional archivist who will bring archival standards to bear in processing its historical archives, preserving them on the premises while making them available to the public and a community of researchers.

Intern and art history student Aldís Snorradóttir will be assisting Lessard in his work. To ensure Denis Lessard’s presence during your visit, or to make an appointment, please phone ahead at 514-398-9322.

The sta/apr project is funded by Emploi Québec and Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec. Aldís Snorradóttir’s contribution is made possible thanks to the support of Concordia University’s Institute for Co-operative Education.
