La soirée des anniversaires
La soirée des anniversaires, an invitation from Vie des arts, SKOL and the RCAAQ

It is in the spontaneous spirit of the holiday season that Vie des arts, SKOL and the RCAAQ come together to invite you to La soirée des anniversaires; a plural celebration marking at once the 70 years of Vie des arts, the 40 years of SKOL and of the RCAAQ, but also birthdays, anniversaries of places, commemorations, and other transitions.
So many occasions — intimate or collective — to honour the years gone by and those still to come.

Biography of Sébastien Goyette Cournoyer
Sébastien Goyette Cournoyer is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Montréal. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University (2015) and a Master’s degree in visual and media arts from UQAM (2023).
His artistic practice revolves around performance, video art, installation, and civic participation. Active for many years in the Québec art community, he has contributed to the organization of various projects, including the Festival d’art performatif de Trois-Rivières (2017–2019).
His works have been presented in several festivals, screenings and solo or group exhibitions, both in Québec and internationally, including at Le Lieu, centre en art actuel (Québec City), Espace Pauline-Julien (Trois-Rivières), Perform’Action Green Festival (Yaoundé, Cameroon), as well as the GUYU ACTION International Performance Art Festival (Xi’an, China).
Artistic statement
Sébastien Goyette Cournoyer draws from his working-class and rural upbringing to deconstruct masculine and heteronormative socialization. The artist performs humorously with objects tied to his cultural heritage, such as car parts, sports equipment, and devices inspired by agricultural fairs. By diverting their aesthetics and functions, he subverts the gendered meanings attributed to them.
About the performance
In his performance Attraction (We Have a Weiner), he draws inspiration from fairground games and circus acts to push his body through a series of ridiculously demanding actions. Through falls, submissive postures, or clumsy attempts at balance, his performance satirizes ideals of masculinity—such as virtuosity, competition, and physical strength. By involving the audience in these offbeat games, he reveals how the carnival world can open a playful reflection on social and gender norms.
