Patrick Bernatchez: Chrysalides

Exhibition

April 4 – May 3, 2008
Opening on Friday April 4, 5pm

Project Description

The exhibition represents a body work produced over the past year under the self-imposed theme of  the Chrysalides : together, these paintings, illustrations, 35 mm films, sound and sculptural works document the incubation and emergence of the artist’s vision of a post apocalyptic order. Bernatchez’s skillfully elaborate and complex compositions source from a coalescence of dystopian symbols and codes culled from popular culture. Chrysalides is a multidisciplinary exhibition that examines themes of vanity, decline and alienation through the lens of the phantasmagorical. Initially presented as a series of limited and sporadic apparitions held in and around the artist’s studio, Skol is pleased to host the Montréal premiere of this otherworldly vision assembled here in its totality. This exhibition is presented in a text by Bernard Schütze.
