Project Description
Documentation (Patric Lacasse & Alexis Bellavance)
From October 20 to November 4, Skol turns into a multitasking centre dedicated to the global representation of dissemination, inluding reflection, production, dissemination and documentation. Artists Patric Lacasse and Alexis Bellavance will process artefacts, audio, photo and video material recorded during Viva! Art Action. The artists will bring a fresh, yet retrospective outlook on Viva! Art Action, an action packed performance event held mainly at Bain St-Michel, an autonomous and fertile ground for actions presented by more than 60 artists from Europe, Asia and the Americas. The challenge consists in representing the multiple facets and often divergent and contradictory values linked to so many subjectivities and embrace the chaotic yet fragile nature of this temporary squat. A challenging proposition for those who participated in every step of this happening, from its inception to its reincarnation in the form of a document.

Produced last winter by a group of adults involved in a literacy program, the artwork slowly grew out of a very rich learning, discovery and exchange process carried out over a period of 5 months. The exhibition of the artwork at Skol serves as a laboratory for an exploration into the initial steps of this 3 year project with a community organisation. A public presentation of the project highlighting the subjective experiences and challenges encountered by all participants will be facilitated by Devora Neumark on Saturday October 21 at 2 pm.
This project is supported by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec and Ville de Montréal’s agreement on Montreal’s cultural development.
