Artist’s talk + video projection of Garbatella – A walk with Jacopo Benci (26’, in English)

Project Description

During her residency at The British School at Rome, Katherine Lapierre became interested in the relationship between power and architecture present under the fascist regime. Her video Garbatella – A walk with Jacopo Benci (26’, in English), depicts a little known neighbourhood of Rome, conceived at a time when Socialist Italy was about to experience a strong rupture under the leadership of Mussolini – once in power, he would impose his control in every last detail of an eclectic, vernacular and surprising architecture built at the turn of the 20s.
