Rutger Emmelkamp: Recent Work
Exhibition
October 9 – November 8, 2003
Project Description
Small objects, made from silver, wood and resin are dispersed over the large gallery’s walls of Skol. They are delicately worked until their texture is smooth. Their somehow precious appearance brings to mind the meticulous work of jewellers. Writing acts as intervention, and impedes the notion of the completion of work. Echoing the artist’s examinations, short sentences are inscribed directly on the walls’ empty areas with a pencil. Their content, partly allegorical, partly poetic, places us close to the artist’s inner voice—it reveals the stance of a bricoleur confronted with doubts and the difficulty in establishing the function of a work of art.
