Group Exhibition: Beauté effraction (beauty break-in)

Born in 1995, Franco-Ontarian artist Chloé Gagnon lives and works in Tio’tia:ke (Montréal). She holds a master’s in visual and media arts from UQAM and a BFA from Université de Moncton. Making use of collage transposed to painting, her work takes a feminist, critical, and humourist approach to a quest for agency. Gagnon has recently presented the solo exhibition Did We Dream Too Fast? at UQAM’s CDEx (2021). In Québec, she has participated in a number of group shows, including Norme de la femme qui veut mordre dans son pain, curated by Le Lobe as part of the 4th edition of Espace sensible (2022); Blastover, at galerie Cache Studio (2022); Artch: 4e édition, on Dorchester square (2021); Peinture fraiche et nouvelle construction, at Art Mûr (2021); and Écho Boomer: Natifs numériques, at Projet Casa (2020).

Milan Milosavljevic was born in Yugoslavia, a country that no longer exists. After a stay in Belgrade and then in London, searching still for a milieu to replace his lost country, he moved to Montreal in 2017. He began studying art and design when he was only fifteen, and then continued through university where he completed graduate studies. In the last five years, after many exhibitions in his home country and abroad, M. undertook an unconventional cycle of creative work in his Montreal studio.  The artist uses accessible or recycled packing materials (paper, cardboard, fabric, plastic, etc.) in works that become visual and personal testimonials against a backdrop of themes of attachment, filiation, marriage, and migration.

Of Quebec-Syrian origin, artist Ingrid Syage Tremblay lives and works in Montreal. Her practice integrates both traditional and contemporary sculptural procedures. Animated by gesturality, repetition, and the artist’s own curiosity, the materials employed are diverted from their initial form and wholly reinterpreted, producing a highly sensitive body of work. Tremblay holds a master’s in sculpture and extended media from the University of Texas at Austin and was the recipient of the Virginia Commonwealth University Fountainhead Fellowship in Sculpture. Her career includes numberous solo and group exhibitions in Quebec, the United States, and Europe. She was recently an artist in residence at Est-Nord-Est (Quebec), NARS Foundation (New York), Carving Studio and Sculpture Center (Vermont), and Djerassi (California).

Charline P. William holds a master’s in visual and media arts from Université du Québec à Montréal. Her pictorial practice draws from surrealism and German expressionist cinema and uses an iconography of everyday life to address issues of power struggles and resistence. Painted on both sides, her supple, unstretched canvases become bodies, shells, costumes. William reveals the hidden meaning in her works in performance-readings and video presentations, where she activates their narrative content, sometimes even wearing them. William has presented her work in Canada, Mexico, and Argentina.
